To transform industries through technology that empowers customers and protects the planet.
Micro-pollutants, such as microplastics, are one of the leading forms of pollution entering our water. There are an estimated 5.25 trillion particles of plastic in the world’s oceans, with countless more in our waterways and our bodies. While there isn’t much that can be done (yet) about the micro-pollutants already in these systems, Matter has set out to slow the release of new ones by stopping them at the source.
The startup is pioneering plastic capture and has developed a retrofit microfiber filter for commercial and domestic washing machines, called Gulp, which effectively filters out microplastics and other fibres. Alongside its market-ready retrofit product, the company is now working in partnership with major appliance manufacturers to integrate its filtration technology directly into new washing machines, aligning with legislation such as France's 2025 requirement for build-in microplastic filters.
With its impressive list of partners, backers, and accelerators, Matter is well set to see growth as its innovative tech plays a major role in reducing micro-pollutants.
