Minespider's mission is to foster a world where tracked, responsible products are the norm rather than the exception.
The source of raw minerals used in everyday electronics and products has proven notoriously hard to trace in the past, which is a huge problem in a sector where mining processes can involve human rights abuses and unsustainable conduct. Blockchain-based Minespider is hoping to change that, with their digital Product Passports that allow for supply-chain traceability in a maximally energy-efficient way. Companies can link their minerals to crucial mining data like carbon emissions and responsibility audits on the blockchain, which buyers can then use to source minerals with confidence.
Responsible production and sourcing in the raw materials industry has become an ever more central concern. Now, however, the regulatory net is tightening, meaning large corporations are under increasing material pressure to prove their sustainability performance and avoid fines and suits. Consequently, demand and social pressure in favour of services like Minespider is on the rise.
Minespider have received EU funding, and in turn are helping major high profile clients like Volkswagen, CISCO, and Google meet new EU regulations regarding ore mining. As the mining and material production sectors at large slowly begin adopting blockchain traceability technology, this will give Minespider the reputational clout to remain a leading player.
