To ensure a resilient future for farming.
Farming in the UK (and globally) is in a moment of huge change right now, as new technologies emerge and we start to rethink how our farming practices align with a wider need for greater sustainability. Muddy Machines aim to show us what the future of farming looks like, with smart harvesting robots to increased yield with the precision of a Manuel workers.
Its harvesting machine, nicknamed ‘Sprout’, runs on rechargeable lithium batteries for sustainability and is designed to be light enough to not disturb soil conditions. It uses AI sensors to harvest crops as delicate as asparagus, works alone or in adaptive ‘herds’, and can run for 16 hours with no decline in performance.
It's an impressive offering, and could find a solid foothold at a time when the farming industry is somewhat in flux. Concerns have been raised about vulnerability to hacking, that foreign groups could essentially destabilise essential infrastructure, but Muddy Machines assure us that it's worked with cyber security researchers at the University of Warwick to mitigate against this.
