Ness aims to make traditional health insurance as elusive as its namesake Scottish monster. While health insurance providers are financially incentivized to reduce sick care costs in the short-term, Ness is developing a fintech procut to flip this equation on its head.
Ness’s first product, a consumer credit card, rewards its users for spending on wellness. For the first time, that means that both providers and consumers are aligned for the sake of preventative care purchases.
Over time, the startup is looking to add medical benefits, coverage, and essentially everything you’d look for from a health insurance plan in new credit card tiers.
To do that, Ness needs to reward all healthy actions, including fitness activities and physician visits. To start on that journey, the company will need to go through the challenging process of integrating and growing its latest acquisition - WellSet, a 4,000-person nationwide network of health and wellness practitioners.
