To democratise wealth management by empowering nations of investors.
Investing has traditionally been only for the wealth, but the rise of investment fund platforms has changed all that. However the 'beginner' investment market has still been underserved, with shares trading being considered a somewhat technical and risky activity for the inexperienced. Nutmeg exists to make investing in shares accessible an easy, with a lower minimum investment and lower fees compared to its larger competitors.
Nutmeg faces some competition from the likes of Moneyfarm, Tulipshare and Wombat Invest. While there is plenty of room for more than one business looking to serve the entry-level investment market, it is important for players in this space to stay competitive and maintain a strong brand. Nutmeg have done this by investing heavily in marketing and maintaining a focus on the simplicity of their services.
Nutmeg's low fee structure means tight margins, and it needs to scale to achieve profitability. JPMorgan's 2021 acquisiton of Nutmeg has placed the company in the strong position of having the backing of a major financial institution which will help with its marketing outreach and product development. In the near future it seems likely that Nutmeg will be fully integrated into JPMorgan's banking arm, allowing its services to be accessed seamlessly by all Chase customers.
