Making foods from all cultures easily accessible from anywhere in the world.
In the last decade, the number of people in the UK buying food and groceries online has doubled. The recent spike began in 2020 with the lockdown measures of the pandemic creating a demand in food delivery services. Since, the market has continued to experience sharp growth as consumers continue to look for convenient options. Founder Miriam Jimoh created Oja to tap in to an overlooked section of the market, seeing many marginalised cultures under-served in the groceries they know and use.
Although there are plenty of top competitors in the food delivery service, including Dija, Getir and Ocado, the company is leading the way in the ethnic online grocery market. The Oja app digitises the ethnic food market and opens itself up to a wider audience of users, who previously have not had a centralised platform to purchase ethnic food.
Funding for Oja began in 2018, and therefore, the company has emerged into a thriving market. Recent funding will help Oja scale across the UK, and long term plans include expansion to the European market, where the ethic food space is similarly underdeveloped.
