To build open digital infrastructure for the planet's environmental challenges.
Our take
OpenEarth is a unique non-profit organisation that values open-source solutions using emerging tech such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain and Internet of Things (IoT), to conceptualize solutions to increase planetary resilience.
Heavily inspired by the Paris Agreement signed in 2016, OpenEarth champions the cause of climate change with its initiatives incentivizing the revitalization of the planet. Fundraisers such as its 2021 OceanDrop NFT allowed consumers to purchase digital art, with funds pledged towards supporting cleaner oceans.
The company faces many challenges, such as approaches to climate action not being well integrated with digital systems. More pressingly however, many digital solutions don’t place the needs of the planet first. Whilst OpenEarth’s claims that it does otherwise, it does tread a fine line with its use of emerging tech, with concerns for its sustainability. This being said, 100% of OpenEarth's profits fund clean and sustainable initiatives.
