Company mission

To decrease the amount of time and brain calories that developers spend on authorization by a factor of ten.

Our take

When thinking about gaining access to an application, it's easy to focus on the authentication side but there is another side to this, and that is authorization. This is related to what you can do once you're inside the application and is one of the most foundational needs of developers when building apps, but it can still be difficult to deliver.

Oso has created an open-source library called Oso Cloud, set to combat the difficulties of authorization. Oso Cloud offers an open-source policy that represents security as a code so developers can combine security authorization within applications easily.

Since the company's inception in 2018, the open-source product has been adopted by thousands of devlopers from startups to the Fortune 100, like Wayfair, Intercom, Visa, and Codecademy. The company is now focused on further expanding the internal team as well as the Oso Cloud product.

Company values

  • Be for the customer: We want to understand our end users' world, so we prioritize solving their authorization problems above all else.
  • Be an owner: We put accountability to results over process.
  • Ship it: Speed is a virtue in and of itself, we explore product ideas through design, hacks and guides before building and throw away any ideas and code that don't pan out.
  • Practice feedback daily: It's like brushing your teeth - practice it daily.
