Our take
Challenging the status quo of expensive college education, Outlier provides all-inclusive college courses for $400, about 1/5th as expensive as a traditional course. It uses technology to solve the problem of expensive and inaccessible college courses, and its films are recorded by professors from highly respected universities such as Yale and Harvard.
Unlike many online courses, it offers 1-1 time and cutting-edge learning techniques, and the courses translate into usable college credit. There has been a massive shift to online education in recent years, which has forced academia to create engaging virtual learning options.
Outlier currently offers intro classes and a College Success service to assist students whilst they study, which has the goal of increasing college retention and graduation rates. With many universities showing an interest, and widespread adoption of online learning, there is plenty of scope for the company to expand.
Some colleges and universities may choose to offer their own versions of Outlier, but many still prefer to focus on its already high-level courses. This means that Outlier’s slick and ready-to-go platform is a convenient option for them to partner with.
