Many business processes have been made much simpler over the last 20 years. Payroll software, on the other hand, hasn't changed much. Running payroll still requires huge amounts of manual data entry, which leads to errors, lockdown periods and general frustration. Pento aims to change that by providing a SaaS-based online platform intended to optimize payroll services.
Its platform helps to automate payroll system and offer complementary features to employees, such as user-friendly access to pay history and personal pay-related data, enabling small and medium-sized companies to find a digital way to automate salary processing, taxes and is fully connected to HMRC. It operates a classic SaaS model, charging a monthly subscription per seat.
Typical Pento customers are companies with 1-150 employees, although the startup is also seeing quite a lot of demand from bigger companies too. It now boasts over 700 of these as customers. With enough recent funding, Pento is gearing up for significant improvements to its tech and expanding its team as needed in the next few years.

If you're someone that loves a challenge and likes to get your hands dirty, you'll love Pento. You really can get involved in all types of projects because it's a really collaborative team. Coming from a different domain but the same scope (Finance) it's really blown my mind how much we can impact our customers without layers of bureaucracy getting in the way!

There is a refreshing amount of focus on having the best person doing any given role. I've seen countless role changes across the team since joining 18 months ago (some times even across different functions). One of the first things that caught my eye about Pento was that they really are a remote-first business. I love no longer having to be tied to a specific location; I've been able to work several months this year in different European cities, coming back to London in between and seeing the team in our London based office (which is not mandatory to go into!). I don't have strict working hours and absolutely love the unlimited holiday policy; you just know that the business has been formed with you as an employee/shareholder front of mind.

As in any early stage startup, you're often times baptised with lava! With so much growth comes undiscovered waters - that said, most of your learning comes from doing. It's a really challenging environment + way of building out your skillset, but definitely the most rewarding. The team is very well rounded and we have a lot of expertise to draw on.
