Our take

Mental health has accelerated as a topic in public discussion over the past years. Over 264 million people suffer from depression globally which costs the global economy $1 trillion every year. Moreover, Covid-19 lockdowns have increased home-office and anxiety around the world. Therefore, it has become a necessity for companies to ensure that their employees are equipped with the tools necessary to thrive during the lockdown period – and beyond.

This represents an opportunity for tech companies such as People Matter, LiveSmart and Unmind, that are offering mental wellness platforms for workplaces. With the wellbeing technology market set to be worth £2.31bn by 2022, People Matter offers a new, ethical and science-based product that can scale and make an impact on millions.

People Matter is a B2B SaaS Company. Their main product, Okina, is a safe online space for workers that measures and improves mental wellness at work. It uses AI and their proprietary measurement scale (PEBB), to learn about employees and how their digital environment impacts their burnout risk, offering personalised recommendations. Additionally, Onika Care provides organisations with macro-insights on culture and real-time dashboards that show how their workforce is feeling and most importantly, why.

People Matter has already seen success as they won Tech Nation’s Rising Stars competition and were awarded Start-Up of the Year by Tech SouthWest in 2019. Furthermore, in 2020 they secured more than £300,000 funding through an equity crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs.
