Our take

For years pet owners did not challenge the quality of their pets’ food. However, owners now know that the low quality ingredients in the pet food had been the underlying reason for many health issues with the pets, particularly obesity.

PetPlate changed the game in this respect, inventing a new category of fresh-cooked pet food category, one of the fastest growing categories in the $44 billion pet food industry. The startup is now distinguished in a crowded field by its relentless pursuit of excellence in overall customer experience.

The startup is now focused on expanding its services. While its subscription-based model has fuelled impressive growth and attracted investors, the brand is now experimenting with brick & mortar stores to reach new types of audiences.

The biggest challenge for PetPlate will be competition from venture-backed players in the space such as Ollie and Grubbly Farms. However, overall growth driven by the “humanization of pets” means there should be enough demand for PetPlate’s continued growth.
