Picnic operates a marketplace for businesses to source social display ad formats, including options such as sponsored stories and mid-article posts on editorial content. The company's advertising formats are designed to be engaging and dynamic, inspired by the ones found on social media, which typically deliver higher engagement than traditional display ads.
The company also provides a self-service "Picnic Studio" tool, which enables media owners to design and create custom ads in minutes. The service is available at major publishers, including the UK’s entertainment powerhouse LADbible, and France’s Group Cerise.
Having secured additional funds in 2023, to top up its 2021 raise, Picnic is now focussed on carving a path to profitability. It has also launched a first-of-its-kind inventory intelligence platform, PIQ (Picnic Inventory Quality), that enables users to assess a webpage’s suitability for effective ad delivery.

Great colleagues are just one of the reasons why I love working at Picnic - they make every day enjoyable, whether working remotely, in the office or at regular work socials. Colleagues are always happy to collaborate, share knowledge and support each other - which creates a really positive and motivating environment to work in.

There are lots of opportunities to learn at Picnic - although I've only been here for 5 months, I've already had the opportunity to take on a broad range of work, and feel as though I am learning and developing every day. Management also create a really supportive environment for this, including time each week to focus on learning.

I joined Picnic as an Account Manager with very little knowledge of the industry. After 18 months of learning and incredibly supportive management, I was able to follow my personal interests and strengths by switching roles and setting up the foundations for our (growing!) marketing team. As a result, I have become completely passionate about our product and the wider industry, and created work that I'm really proud of.

I feel lucky to say that I genuinely like my colleagues (!!) which only enhances my motivation to do great work as we progress towards our shared goals and mission. We celebrate the wins together, but we also pull together to navigate challenges along the way. Knowledge sharing and open communication are actively encouraged, ensuring that we are constantly learning from one another.

I feel fully supported and looked after at Picnic. I know that my wellbeing is valued as we has access to free therapy sessions and extra lunch time on Wednesdays to go to the gym or relax. It is drilled in from the top of the company that you shouldn't be working outside of work hours.

When I joined Picnic it was only a handful of people and knowledge sharing was the key to eliminating burnout. Making sure that everyone is in an environment of constant learning has fostered a culture of openness from the leadership team to recent grads, while also prompting innovation from anyone within in the business. This philosophy has been fundamental to our success so far. Due to this there are opportunities to learn every day.

Trust and openness are 2 core values that our founding team have distilled into the culture of Picnic. Without open & honest communication employees aren't able to develop to their true potential and the business can't grow at the rate it might be able to achieve. The company has multiple "Ask me anything" sessions with our Founder, as well as, quarterly breakdowns & product reviews to make sure everyone is aware of where the business is going / what the future looks like. Feedback of all sessions is actively encouraged to make sure we're not standing still and to make sure everyone is heard.

Picnic's built a unique product that's changing the way that advertisers target users, publishers monetise their content and users interact with advertising. We're at the forefront of reinventing mobile advertising on the open web through Social Display. It's not life saving medicine or autonomous cars, but it's game changing for one of the largest industries in the world.
