Our take
Founders are excellent at growing their own business but aren't specialists in company finance. As a result startups and scaleups will often have large amounts of money sitting in business bank accounts, where their cash gradually depreciate in value over time due to fees and inflation. Pile Capital is aiming to fix this situation, helping founders and the leaders of fast-growing businesses manage their cash, diversifying deposits to maximise returns.
Previously working in the crypto space, Pile has pivoted at an excellent time, providing their B2B banking sector expertise to an industry that has recently suffered extreme turbulence in their treasury management. With recent events like the FTX collapse and SVB bankruptcy, startups are looking for ways to protect themselves against exposure to bank risk and Pile is in a strong position to offer this support, particularly in Europe where it is offering one of the first treasury products of this type on the market.
Pile raised money in a pre-seed funding round in 2022, which it is using to expand its market presence across Europe and develop its product. As startups will continue to need specialised banking services to help extend their runways and reduce their financial costs, Pile has positioned itself to grow while providing a much needed service.
