Company mission

Planet A Foods' mission is to create a world with access to just and sustainable food for everyone.

Our take

Cocoa farming commits some of the biggest sins of the food industry such as deforestation, child labour, and soil degradation. Planet A Foods is seeking to replace the ingredient in mass-market applications for the ever-growing segment of conscious consumers.

The startup is adopting a different approach to players like Voyager Foods. Instead of a chemical substitute, it has developed a fermentation process that uses natural by-products from other food-making processes for its base material. Its vegan product is built from there with the use of proprietary micro bacteria.

The company has been focused on customer feedback regarding the taste and texture of its products, through methods such as a ‘test-kit’ of 9 samples. Most recently, it has plans to trial the first-ever product purchases of its ice cream at an exclusive pop-up stall in Germany, with the aim of having permanent products on the market very soon.

Planet A Foods hopes to follow in the footsteps of companies like Oatly that have won significant market share, which means overcoming the challenge of delivering a quality product that is on parity with its unethical counterpart.
