Our take

Pole Star Global has kept something of a low profile for well over two decades since it was founded. Its services, however, are of global reach: it provides maritime intelligence solutions for vessels across the world, from ships to fisheries, with a focus on geospatial data.

The company’s maritime intelligence suite includes solutions for risk mitigation and real-time decision making, including vessel and risk intelligence, and satellite tracking for ships. This is good business: maritime transport remains critical to the global economy, accounting for 80% of trade across the world. So Pole Star Global’s addressable market isn’t shrinking any time soon.

The company is also responsible for Pole Star Defense, the government contractor arm which caters to clients like the Department of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard. This kind of high-calibre customer base speaks highly of Pole Star Global’s technical prowess - and it will help cement the company’s position. Whilst the likes of BigOceanData and Informa offer maritime intelligence of a sort, Pole Star Global is the largest player with an expressly technical focus combined with heavy-hitting customers. Its outlook is strong.
