Our take

Protect Democracy is a US nonpartisan, nonprofit group of experts working to prevent authoritarianism, in response to the rise in authoritarianist sentiment across the globe. The organization encompasses a range of expertise and functions, including but not limited to public interest litigation, democracy-centered research and analysis, and software for fairer, secure, more transparent elections.

As the global commitment to democracy falters, Protect Democracy has taken on a gargantuan-scale mission to find out why, and to try to protect democracy for future generations. One current focus of the organization is on the further development of "VoteShield", that provides state and local election officials with advanced data analysis to detect unauthorized or improper changes to voter databases - monitoring the entire election cycle to ensure they are free and fair.

Company values

  • We find strength in diversity: We believe diverse teams are inherently more effective and are essential to understanding the range of challenges the country faces and responding accordingly.
  • We try new things, learn, and grow together: We approach every new project and problem with a growth mindset, experimenting and learning through feedback. We are facing unconventional challenges, which means doing unconventional things and taking bold swings that others might not be willing to take.
  • We aspire to a culture of care and balance: Our success will depend upon our creativity, imagination, commitment, and sense of the possible—these things require rest, trust, and a sense of belonging. We are stronger and more resilient as a team because we always do our best to treat each other with kindness and respect.
  • We value being together, but work from everywhere: As a remote-first organization, we have been figuring out how to build community while working across the country since our founding. We invest in the systems and processes that allow us to do our best work, no matter where we are.
