Our take

Over a million people die each year as a result of road traffic accidents. Now, with the advent of smart vehicles, a new avenue for prevention has opened up, and Provizio is hoping to bring it to the mainstream. Their automotive accident prevention platform uses AI and sensors to detect and alert a car’s driver to accidents before they happen. The idea is to get this platform into all vehicles globally.

The problem is, this will require great adaptability on the part of the platform - and a low production and installation cost to make it marketable. Provizio, however, benefit from good funding, and a remarkable team including robotics experts responsible for developing early self-driving car technology for Google and Uber. So they have the resources, and the drive, to potentially make substantial strides.

Longer-term, the idea is to help chivvy along progress in the stalling development of self-driving cars - for example by providing detailed insights and data about precisely why road accidents happen. This more socially impactful approach to smart vehicle technology is astute, allowing Provizio to somewhat sidestep the hottest areas of autonomous car competition. It also might just be the thing that gets them ahead.
