Our take
Raspberry Pi includes the Raspberry Pi Foundation, which is a UK-based charity aiming to help young people acquire computing skills, and Raspberry Pi Ltd, which sells low-cost boards and ancillary equipment.
The company's business model involves selling low-cost single board computers and donating all the profits to its foundation. The foundation's activity consists in collaborating with schools to provide students with the opportunity to learn programming skills using its credit-card-sized computer, while also providing training for teachers
The Single Board Computer (SBC) Market size was valued at over $1 billion in 2020. In an attempt to increase its market share, the company raised $45 million in 2021 which was invested in developing its production capacity and expanding its product line of Pi microprocessors. Off the back of two rounds of growth equity funding in 2023, the company aspires to see its little computer being used by kids all over the world in their journey to learn programming.
