Reconstruction is developing a K-12 supplemental online curriculum that focuses on Black people, history, and culture. It’s a direct and timely contribution to the heightened focus on racial discrimination, particularly those surrounding education in the classroom. Many consider the standard curricula to be lacking in this regard, but are facing substantial hurdles in getting changes through. So an independent, accessible, and content-rich digital alternative seems like the perfect offering - this is where Reconstruction comes in.
It’s perhaps surprising, given the recent attention to this issue, that Reconstruction face relatively little competition. The Black History and Culture Academy was founded at around the same time, offering similar digital subscription access to similar online course content. It seems, however, to be addressing a more mature audience.
So Reconstruction is addressing a neat market opportunity here, at a timely moment, in a way that offers material and important benefits to learners at large. With the demand for online learning remaining high following its recent upswing, Reconstruction are operating on a strong model.
