Our take
Many companies strive to make their product packaging as sustainable as possible, but the reality is that reusable packaging solutions are rarely commercially viable. Many businesses instead strive for minimal single-use plastic packaging or transition to recyclable, rather than reusable packaging. With many barriers for companies transitioning to reuse, Reposit is a digital platform company that works with brands to scale their reusable packaging solutions.
Its founders originally launched Beauty Kitchen in 2014 for beauty products, and a connected reusable packaging scheme for the company in 2019. This eventually evolved into Reposit, providing other companies with the same scheme and packaging lifecycle. Simply put, companies signed up to Reposit can purchase Reposit packaging for their products and return the packaging when done. QR codes on both bottles and return points generate information and create a reuse ecosystem.
With 23 locations and product return points at M&S outlets nationwide, Reposit is catching on. It might be a small company but its B-Corp certification and UKRI-funded grant project highlight its efficacy. With several thrilling yet confidential product launches planned with well-known retailers and brands across the UK in the fourth quarter, it will be interesting to see what products and capabilities they showcase next.
