To contribute to combating depopulation in small communities by promoting their socio-economic development. To tackle challenges such as the lack of accommodation facilities and the presence of unused second homes that do not generate income in small towns, thus contributing to their sustainability.
Whilst the coastlines and urban centres of Italy are economically supported by tourism, the more rural inland areas of the country don’t always benefit from the same popularity. Ruralis is tackling this problem by developing distribution channels for rural Italian holiday rentals.
Through transferring these businesses online, the young company is helping develop the tourist sector in areas such as Irpinia, where it has partnered with the likes of Princeton University in organising study trips. Initiatives like this have helped Ruralis gain funding from governmental bodies, crowdfunding and private investors.
Whilst study trips are one thing, Ruralis is using its holiday digitisation and marketing to organise entrepreneur meetups as well. These will draw in international business leaders to rural Italy to develop ways to boost the economy, providing further incentive to fund Ruralis’s growth.
