Our take
While many think of industries such as aviation as some of the least sustainable, the built environment is actually one of the primary polluters across our globe. But regular individual monitoring of these buildings is too expensive both in terms of time and cost, meaning much of the environmental and sustainable ratings are often years out of date.
Satellite Vu will monitor the temperature of every building on the planet in near real time using thermal infrared imagery, to determine valuable insights into economic activity, energy efficiency and carbon footprint.
This data will then support energy and environmental applications, such as identifying emissions sources and buildings that are wasting heat. In particular, companies can drive commitments to achieve environmental standards, such as “net zero” emissions goals. Following a fresh injection of capital, the company is well set to meet its commercialisation goals by mid-2024.
