Company mission

Home is a human right. It's our foundation and it's where we thrive. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency. We exist to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.

Our take

Thousands of people in the UK face crisis due to a lack of safe housing, and the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the severity of this problem significantly. In addition to homelessness, many UK citizens are struggling in unsafe housing or with immoral housing practices and require support and security.

Shelter raises funds through online donations, physical charity shops, and other campaigns in order to support UK citizens affected by homelessness and unsafe housing. People affected by these obstacles can use Shelter's website to access housing advice and support, whilst others can use the website to post free donations to charity shops and sign up for volunteering opportunities.

Several other UK charities such as Crisis and Centre Point aim to tackle homelessness through fundraising, but Shelter has taken a unique approach by tackling not only homelessness but unsafe housing practices as a whole. The company encourages people to not just donate but also volunteer in order to put a stop to predatory landlord practices and housing injustices.
