SiMa.ai's mission is to make ML effortless for everyone.
As computer vision and AI brings amazing new capabilities to previously mundane devices such as phones, security cameras and even doorbells, edge computing is equally becoming increasingly important. However, this comes at the cost of sharply increased computing costs. By the end the decade edge computing is projected to use up to 20% of global electricity output unless something changes.
SiMa.ai is rising to this challenge with a solution which allows for dramatically reduced power use on embedded edge devices, particularly focusing on the demands of computer vision. It manufactures a specialized machine learning processor chip which is paired to an edge computing platform which sits between deployed devices and the data center.
While itβs not the only company operating in this increasingly crowded field β EdgeQ, Hailo and Kneron are just a few competitors β its software first approach and custom chipset allows it to deliver 10 times the performance of rivals including heavyweight incumbent Nvidia, giving it a vital edge in the market.
This edge seems likely to be extended with the recent closing of a Series B funding round which has raised a significant amount of capital for the company. This will be used to further develop its products and platform and to grow its customer base. SiMa.ai is rapidly scaling its operations as developments in AI increase demand for its chip and platform, and going forward is well positioned to maintain its momentum in the computer vision space.
