Our take

Automated robo-advisors have made huge changes to the investment landscape in recent years, with players like Betterment and WealthFront leading the charge. SigFig has identified a niche by selling white-label robo-advisor services to financial services firms like Wells Fargo, UBS, and Citizens Bank.

SigFig's automated wealth management toolkits include robo-advisors, tools to improve tax efficiency, portfolio diversification advice, and other investment account management tools. They make money by selling this toolkit under a license to financial services firms and by taking a percentage of the assets that are managed using its technology. It also operates "SigFig for Consumers", which enables users to build smart and tax-efficient investment portfolios for a much lower cost than traditional advisors.

To remain competitive into the future, SigFig has executed and planned the launch of new offerings including Discover, a lead-generation software application, and a remote collaboration tool called Engage.
