SilkFred's mission is build a fashion ecosystem that puts the joy back into online shopping and allows independent brands to thrive.
Independent brands find it difficult to attract customers and maintain their business, but SilkFred has created an ecosystem that allows these brands to reach an audience looking for the latest fashion. It has an end-to-end solution for brands spanning photography, marketing, and logistics, allowing brands to go from idea to brand very quickly. It has also created a destination for customers to discover and shop designer styles without the designer price tag.
SilkFred was founded on likes, comments and conversations with its customers on social media. It began in 2011, raising £150,000 in seed money. By 2019 it employed 70 staff and represented 600 fashion brands, using its data-led approach allowing them to provide their brands with insights they wouldn't otherwise get. In 2020, SilkFred launched a new app for its customers in the iOS App Store, and later launched an app for Android.
The company now stocks over 900 hand-picked independent fashion brands, including many which it has helped to grow from market stalls to seven-figure businesses - for example Never Fully Dressed, which now has millions of customers. With a long history of high-achievement, and the ever-growing popularity of online shopping, there seems to be no reason SilkFred will not continue to find success in the coming years.
