To change the way people move by building the digital infrastructure for global rail.
Consumers and organisations are swapping out airline and motor travel for cleaner alternatives and a greener future, creating a potentially substantial customer windfall for rail companies. However, customers are increasingly expecting comprehensive, streamlined digital apps, booking portals and payment systems - all of which the rail industry has previously struggled with in the past.
This is where SilverRail comes in. They are building innovative, modern technology to drive the rail industry into the new age. SilverRail has netted much of the UK, EU and US market with clients: National Rail, Chiltern Railways, Grand Central, and SNCF over in Europe are all on board.
SilverLine helps rail companies get a step ahead, with a suite of digital infrastructure tools including journey planning solutions, sales distribution, payment methods, data insights, and a ticket issuing system. The idea is to help them deliver better services, more simply, and cheaper - which in turn gives companies more leeway to pass on savings to the customers and a smoother journey.

For a variety of reasons implementing a split ticketing solution for the UK rail market is a very challenging problem. You need to balance the speed of the responses, with the accuracy of the responses and at the same time not putting too much pressure on industry systems. The first solution is complete for one Train Operating Company. The next challenge is to scaled this solution across the UK.

There are several programs that Silverrail runs that all employees have access to: Monthly Yoga Sessions, Free access to mindfulness app, Fitness Challenges, Flexible working hours, hybrid working, access to a mental health first aider, information sessions on mental health, physical health etc. Beyond that the People Ops team really care about people's well being. Whilst I was dealing with some family issues I received tremendous support from Silverrail. The company wants to be successful but not at the expense of its employees.

My experience has been that managers are very happy to allow engineers to implement solutions as they see fit once the boundaries of the problem are defined. For example whilst developing a new ticket calculation algorithm it was left to me to design and implement a solution. I consulted with experts when I felt it necessary and checked in with my Product Owner along the way. I hate being micromanaged. I'm thankful that at Silverail that does not happen :-)
