SparkChange launched the world’s first physically-backed carbon exchange-traded commodity (ETC) listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2021. Investing in physical carbon allowances directly impacts emission levels in a material way; this gives ordinary investors the opportunity to own these allowances, resulting in the prevention of CO2 emissions in the EU.

Since then, SparkChange has surpassed $250 million in assets, with over 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 permits being withheld from polluters in Europe, creating a positive environmental impact. This is equivalent to twice the carbon footprint of the Winter Olympics, or 8 per cent of London’s annual emissions.

Now, with backing from some of the world's leading financial institutions, SparkChange also provides a data platform and suite of analytics tools to further support investors to decarbonise their portfolios and increase the pace of progress towards net zero. This is allowing SparkChange to further its goal of changing the environment for the better.
