To democratize access to elite education.
Many workers no longer have access to elite knowledge. Believing that true experts shouldn't be confined to leading academic institutions and companies, San Francisco-based Sphere, originally called ScholarSite, provides an alternative education service focusing on software engineering skills, such as machine learning and data science.
The platform provides access to vetted leading experts who lead live, cohort-based courses for professionals around the globe. Each course teaches functional skills to be applied to a user’s work. Whilst prices varies, the costs are often covered by employer learning and development budgets
Already, the company, who ultimately wants to become the largest decentralized corporate university, has upskilled learners from around 1,000 businesses and have secured contracts with companies like Stripe and Tinder. Following Y Combinator backing, the company made connections with several VCs, and has now secured seed funding to accelerate growth
