Our take

Focused on making space travel more sustainable, SpinLaunch works to change the way that people think about space travel. Using centrifugal force, the SpinLaunch kinetic launch system is able to hurl 200-kilogram satellites into low earth orbit in a more financially viable and environmentally friendly way than fuel-based rockets.

The tension between space travel aspirations and net zero targets has plagued the likes of Tesla and Amazon in recent years, but SpinLaunch's methods have the potential to set this at ease. With the industry planning ten times the number of satellite launches in the next decade, the company could bridge the gap between carbon footprint reduction and the democratisation of space moving forwards.

Whilst skeptics cite potential g-force and gravity resistance as the main factors in why SpinLaunch could be a dud, the company has the backing of NASA and has raised huge funding raised so far. Though it has not yet launched a full-sized rocket into space, the company boasts a number of successful flight tests and has ambitions to launch its first satellite system in 2026.
