Our take
SpinLaunch is a California-based aerospace company aiming to transform how we access space. Instead of relying on fuel-heavy rockets, it uses a kinetic launch system (essentially a giant vacuum-sealed centrifuge) to hurt payloads into space at hypersonic speeds. This approach promises a cheaper, cleaner way to get small satellites into low Earth orbit.
Since its founding, SpinLaunch has completed more than ten successful suborbital test flights and is targeting 2026 for its operational satellite launch. While skeptics point to the challenge of extreme g-force on payloads, the company has earned backing from NASA and other major players, positioning itself as a serious disruptor in the space industry.
In a major boost to its ambitions, the company recently secured substantial funding from Konsberg Defense and Aerospace. The funding supports the development of Meridian Space, a new broadband satellite constellation that aims to achieve global coverage with just one rocket launch. THe company plans to deploy 250 next-gen microsatellites, with support from NanoAvionics. With an in-orbit demonstration set for 2026, SpinLaunch is not only reshaping how we get to space, but it's now building the future of space-based communications too.
