Our take
Star Atlas is a next-gen metaverse gaming experience that incorporates strategy, space exploration, territorial conquest, and political domination. It is built on the Solana blockchain and makes use of Unreal Engine 5 graphics to bring the world of its story to life.
The end gaming product will be an immersive massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, but as these have very long development cycles, the company is first connecting with its audience via features such as NFTs and a web-based strategy version of the game. The Star Atlas showroom R2 provided the closest look at what the completed project could be, with features such as dogfighting in space and air track racing available to try out in a multiplayer environment.
Anticipation for the release is strong, with the company successfully drumming up interest with its regular updates, reveals, and demos. As one of the first games of its kind, it will be interesting to see how Star Atlas paves the way for the Web 3.0 gaming future.
