Our take
The founders of Steplab have a broad and extensive set of experiences in the education system, from both teaching and operational perspectives. This is why they've built an education solution to tackle industry pitfalls, namely how to measure and improve teaching standards.
The platform harnesses instructional coaching and data-driven insights to improve the quality of teaching. It is an approach that draws on insights from top educational researchers, and empowers institutions to improve the student experience while supporting staff.
The UK is going through something of a crisis in the teaching workforce, as many defect to less stressful and better remunerated positions. A platform, therefore, that can offer an effective way of improving the quality of instruction is likely to prove popular among short-staffed headteachers looking to improve their educational provision.
That momentum has now been strengthened by an investment from Pelican Capital, which is backing Steplab's international expansion and continued product development. Already used by more than 200,000 teachers and many of England's highest-performing schools, the platform is becoming a major player in professional development.

(Co-Founder & Head of Product)Prior to co-founding Steplab in 2020, Joshua founded Powerful Action Steps where they served as the CEO for 2 years. Before that, they had a career in education, serving as an Assistant Principal at Oasis Academy Southbank and as a Secondary English Teacher at St. Andrews International School.
Ben Abelman
(Co-Founder & Principal Engineer)Ben previously served as a Lead Software Developer at London Academy. Before that, they were a Software Developer, Music Teacher and IT Technician at Dame Alice Owen's School.
