Supergreat’s community app for beauty enthusiasts hosts video tutorials, reviews, and tip sharing while also acting as a retail outlet for beauty product partners. The company is trying to thread the needle between social media trends seen on TikTok and Instagram Reels, and the booming social commerce industry, which is forecast to rise to almost $40 billion.
It’s worth noting the company’s commitment to healthier practices such as filterless content and invisible follower counts. This move is in keeping with co-founders Tyler Faux and Dan Blackman’s earlier startup, Huddle, a community which focused on mental wellbeing.
Despite facing a real battle to disrupt major social media companies, most of whom are rolling out similar models, Supergreat has attracted huge amounts of investment in a short space of time, who are banking on Gen Z’s growing ambivalence towards legacy social media companies and their “inauthentic” content.
