Our take

Year-round, gifting constitutes a remarkably large market - but hundreds of millions of pounds worth of these gifts are returned annually. THE GO-TO is a new ecommerce marketplace looking to fix this. The recently-launched site aims to spotlight a curated collection of artisanal items catering to shoppers in need of a quick, quality gift.

Whilst sites like Handmade Gifts and Our Handmade Collective also offer selected artisanal stock, they lean more in the direction of crafts. THE GO-TO, by contrast, leans towards higher price points, and that will prove useful in separating out a different (and potentially more lucrative) market niche.

THE GO-TO also leverages the new ecommerce trend of curated collections. Product fatigue can kick in fast for shoppers navigating the swelling online market. This means that a higher premium is placed on a frictionless browsing experience, specifically curation in precisely the hyper-aestheticised fashion of THE GO-TO. It’s hitting all the right marks, so it will be interesting to see how fast the platform takes off.
