To make sure that nobody has to battle with the ups and downs alone.
Mental health disorders have soared in number across the board, with young people being hit especially hard by depression, anxiety, self-harm, and eating disorders. Backlogs and bottlenecks in care provision, however, have led to alternative solutions being developed by startups; one of them is TalkLife.
The company provides peer to peer mental health support apps: TalkLife is a global network, and with over a million members it’s the most popular mental health support network. TalkCampus is designed especially for student mental health, with instant escalation features and integration with student services.
This latter offering is likely to prove especially good business: the rising tide of mental health crises among the young is putting additional strain on already overburdened teaching staff, and the issue has only been exacerbated by the pandemic. Offering students access to social contact and peer support, two factors that have proven clinically effective in recovery, is both a good therapeutic and a good release valve for mounting operational pressures at schools.
