Our take
While the rise of hybrid and remote working has given rise to a large number of collaborative tools, none have yet managed to capture the feel of working together in the same space. Tandem aims to change this with a virtual office for hybrid and remote teams, allowing employees to work together with whoever's logged in, overhear nearby (non-confidential) conversations or even set the background music for one another.
Hybrid work solutions are nothing new but Tandem hopes to stand out with the seamlessness of its experience, with text, video and voice communications built into the platform rather than in integrating with third-party apps such as Teams or Zoom. It also has an edge in that it doesn't require particularly up-to-date hardware to run - its solution will use any cameras or videoconferencing equipment an office already has lying around.
So far its approach has been successful - Tandem has grown rapidly since its founding in 2019 to a customer base of 800 companies, with Medium, Dropbox and Spotify among them. It is focusing on developing its product with a particular focus on its drop-in video conferencing tool Spaces, which is aimed more towards enterprise customers. Should this be successful another round of fundraising and further expansion is very likely in the near future.
