Our take

There’s been a lot of hype over recent years about the robotics sector. Robotics developer and manufacturer Tharsus, think this has led to many companies sinking millions into unnecessary projects with limited commercial returns. Their approach is the opposite, look for what will truly benefit a business, and build out from there.

It’s a level-headed attitude which has won them some success. Most notably, it won them a partnership with Ocado that boosted their operating profits by 80% during the pandemic, whilst other companies were hampered by tightened corporate spending. This kind of reputational pedigree could pay dividends, if companies continue to invest in advanced warehouse robotics as the demand for delivery services rises.

Their client roster is modest, but impressive: BT and 3M join Ocado on the list, and Tharsus’ development of the celebrated social distancing product ‘Bump’ over the pandemic made good on their promise to “do the right thing”. Under the new leadership of a veteran in the field of complex industrial automation, and in a climate where functional, modest robotics are becoming ever more incorporated into daily life, Tharsus are hoping for a period of strong growth.
