To plant enough trees to remove 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2030.
The Future Forest Company is an environmental startup that aims to remove as much excess CO2 from the atmosphere as possible in order to mitigate the effects of global warming.
There are two steps in helping fulfil this aim. Firstly, plant 50 million trees by 2025. Secondly, trial and deploy complimentary carbon removal technologies – biochar and enhanced weathering – to remove an estimated 10 times more CO2 than through reforestation alone.
Their business model involves encouraging the general public to buy trees and providing companies with carbon offsetting programs. The Future Forest Company has already acquired 1500 hectares of land in Scotland, where it has planted almost 1 million trees. They have also started trialling biochar and enhanced weathering on their main site, Glenaros.
