Company mission

To make the textile chain more sustainable.

Our take

The passion people have for fashion often results in designer clothes being purchased that are never worn, and this is not sustainable considering the amount of water and CO2 used to produce clothing. Whilst second-hand marketplaces are available for the sale of clothing, these are generally not focused on designer clothes, with buyers having no guarantee that their purchase meets quality and legitimacy standards.

The Next Closet provides a second-hand marketplace for the purchase of designer clothing, allowing sellers to earn money by reselling unused clothing whilst contributing to a sustainable fashion ethic. To encourage an active buyer-seller community whilst maintaining sustainability, the platform provides free CO2-neutral shipping within the Netherlands and Belgium, whilst charging fees to cover the carbon costs of other international shipments.

Whilst websites such as eBay and Depop allow users to sell second-hand clothing, The Next Closet has taken an interesting approach by focusing on designer brands. This focus allows it to provide guarantees of brand authentication and quality control, whilst giving items a second life and contributing to a sustainable clothing economy.
