To produce food right where it's consumed, skipping the lengthy supply chains and ensuring a final product that is fresh, nutritious, and full of flavour - all whilst minimising our environmental impact.
Mushrooms have quickly become one of the most popular superfoods out there, partly as a nutrient-rich meat alternative for vegans and vegetarians. However, the carbon-intensive processes associated with growing and transporting mushroom products is off-putting in an increasingly eco-conscious world.
Tupu is a Berlin-based company who have designed a decentralised mushroom farming system that can be built and used locally. It uses data-driven technology to grow mushrooms within cities, operating with very little space, water and electricity, and delivering smaller batches of product at competitive prices.
Tupu's sustainable, forward-thinking approach has gained it customers ranging from wholesalers to top chefs like Sebastian Frank (head chef and owner of Michelin starred restaurant Horváth). The company recently acquired vast funding that will allow it to scale it’s production capacity and set its sights on expansion.
