To empower engineers to do their best work.
Amid clusters of tech layoffs and a growing, increasingly remote engineering workforce, one company seeks to help tens of thousands of software development teams work smarter, not harder by gathering metadata based on Slack, Git, Jira and other apps — proxies for how many projects an engineer is working on and for how long they’re doing so.
The crucial rule of engineering productivity for Uplevel is that more hours does not mean more output. This has resulted in a unique product that combines operational metrics with people health considerations, optimising for deep work among its clients’ engineers.
The team has refined the product into a platform well-loved by engineers. Even a former customer has been hired as the CTO. Now capital is being deployed for growth with hiring focused on go-to-market teams, including customer success, sales and marketing.
While Uplevel’s customer numbers and reviews are only positive, its growth has come during the so-called ‘Great Resignation’ where a shift in power to employees has seen soaring wages for engineers. The real test for the startup will be whether clients consider Uplevel’s productivity boosting service a must-have in less costly HR environments.
