Our take

The energy-supply market is a crowded one, featuring many big household names like British Gas and fast-growth scale-ups like Bulb. However, Utilita's business is built around its smart meters and 'In-Home Displays', which enable customers to see exactly how much they're spending on their electricity and gas. This helps customers take control of their energy consumption, where previously they hadn't been able to do so.

The market is also incredibly volatile, with customers prone to swap suppliers, depending on who can offer the best deals. However, Utilita's primary focus is on its customers and it has built its reputation by taking a consumer-first approach. It also helps the planet by encouraging more sustainable energy-practices, which is crucial to its future; energy consumption itself is set to undergo a significant overhaul in the coming years through a focus on renewable energy.

If Utilita wants to continue to build on its successes, keeping on top of these challenges will be of paramount importance. With new projects such as its 'My Utilita' app, it is showing no signs of slowing down on this front.

A graduate from the University of Bath, Bill spent 2 years as Director at Centrica before founding Utilita in 2003.

Joined as Customer Service Advisor in 2015, promoted four times in four years to current position of Partnerships Manager.

Joined as Executive Assistant in 2017, promoted to Real Time Analyst after 1 year and 7 months. Jenner was then promoted twice more to Recruitment Advisor within a further 2.5 years.
