To help make the construction industry more sustainable and efficient
The timber industry has been part of European construction for centuries and is one of the most future-proof materials available. While the timber industry might be a veteran in its space, it has begun to fall behind due to fragments in the industry that allow little room for understanding when it comes to timber's origin, quality, and working conditions. As a result, many buyers have little control over their supply, so they produce based on estimates which often results in a surplus or shortage of stock.
Looking to change this is VonWood, an Amsterdam-based timber trading platform that is bringing timber buyers and sellers together without intermediaries. By directly connecting sawmills and construction companies, VonWood is developing an online platform that is both transparent and cheaper for both parties.
While the company was only founded in 2022, it has already accumulated the backing of several investment organisations and plans to utilise the capital it has gained to grow the company and develop its platform further. Already, VonWood has turned the timber market upside down and it has a promising future as a significant contributor to making the trade of wood more sustainable and transparent.
