Our take
Scaling start-ups is a global challenge. Founded in 2011, Wayra is Telefónica's Open Innovation Hub. With a presence in 15 countries, Wayra is one of the largest global Open Innovation Hubs, run by entrepreneurs.
Wayra UK's primary aim is to find new sources of revenue and innovation for start-ups. They give entrepreneurs access, not only to investment, but also to business development opportunities through online scale-up services and access to real clients. For this, Wayra UK works with Telefonica in coordination with world-class partners including West Midlands 5G, Deloitte, Digital Catapult, Cisco, Novartis, Ferrovial, Hyundai, Connected Places Catapult and the British Government, via the GCHQ and NCSC.
Wayra has already helped over 500 businesses across more than 20 digital industries, with an estimated valuation of all the companies in its portfolio of over €500m. The company is continuing to lead in the market through its in-demand yearly startup accelerator programmes.
