Company mission

To bring about a paradigm shift in weather data collection and positively impact the planet and the lives of millions of people on it.

Our take

WeatherXM, formerly EXMachina, sells personal weather stations that enable community members to monitor weather data, and earn crypto rewards for collecting and validating this data, which it then provides to Web 3.0 enterprises. The company claims that this will increase the accuracy of forecasts for areas of the world which lack weather infrastructure.

The company has received good levels of funding that will enable it to bring the project out of beta, as well as move its token rewards from the Polygon testnet onto the mainnet. While it is not the only company to be exploring a decentralized IoT business model, it is certainly one of few, and its early exploration into this emerging side of the market will put WeatherXM in good stead if the practice is to catch on.
