To create the cleanest, most sustainable seafood on earth, starting with sushi-grade salmon.
70% employee growth in 12 months
Cellular agriculture company Wildtype creates cell-cultivated “sushi-grade” salmon, bringing the world seafood, without the sea. The company’s alternative protein offering protects wild species and the world’s oceans, all while providing consumers with real seafood equal to the most pristine wild-caught fish.
The cultivation process consists of growing the cells of a Pacific salmon in steel tanks (similar to brewery tanks), then transferring the cells into scaffolds, which guide the cells to shape each cut of fish. The company has recently partnered with Solaris Biotech, a leading innovator and manufacturer, to design next-generation bioreactor systems to help meet the growing demand for seafood.
The company’s impressive L Catterton-led funding was also backed by several high-profile investors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr.’s FootPrint Coalition, Bezos Expeditions, and more. Though waiting for FDA approval, Wildtype already has distribution partnerships with SNOWFOX and Pokéworks, and is well set to see substantial growth.
