To make sure that scripts become widely useful tools. The central tenet is: make building automation fast and easy, and everybody will automate repetitive tasks and save a lot of time.
Our take
Today, no-code tools for non-technical developers are popular and intuitive to use, but these options lack the extensibility that code provides. Additionally, writing code is a minimal part of the development process overall, with credentials, permissions, and handling errors but a few of the other steps to overcome. Windmill offers an open-source developer platform, to easily turn scripts into internal applications and workflows.
Windmill’s tools are similar to no-code offerings, except that each module is a script underneath, that can be shared on the WindmillHub and reused by other users. The platform is comprehensive, serving as script editor, flow builder, secret management platform and, importantly, it provides automatic UI generation, saving developers a mountain of time.
Windmill is a young company currently looking to expand its team and develop its product offering. It was a member of the Y combinator Summer 2022 batch.
