Xip helps creators break through by offering direct access to their unique expertise. Their software makes this scaleable through asynchronous video responses, enabling the world's best instructors to help more people one-on-one.
EdTech has received huge amounts of funding over the previous couple of decades. However, a lot of that funding and energy has been directed towards democratising access to educational content through what are often called Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Xip is doing something different.
Instead of focusing on high-quality content, Xip is delivering 1:1 coaching at scale. Consumers ask their favorite knowledge creators specific questions related to what they are trying to learn, and creators can send personalized video responses typically within 48 hours.
While that might sound a pain for the creators, it’s actually a boon. Instead of trying to align schedules for drawn-out Zoom meetings, they can now work asynchronously. Moreover, creators have started to bundle Xips into personalized courses letting them earn more through other channels.
Xip is using recent funding in an interesting way. Some is of course going to build out its engineering team. However, a large chunk is dedicated to a Creator Fund, providing income guarantees, equipment, waived setup fees, marketing support and other assistance. It's an interesting strategy to build out a community of Xippers.
