Our take

Over $2 trillion a year of investor money gets spent on research and development, but there is little oversight over the talent which works on the problems this money is allocated to solving. At the same time, extremely talented scientists are often overlooked due to poor funding processes and an uneven playing field for discovery.

Zeki Research, co-founded by former Home Office Director General Thomas Hurd, aims to improve this situation with a platform that matches the world's top science and engineering talent to funding & resources.

This area is ripe for change - the urgent problems that tech companies, governments and international foundations are trying to solve require that no resource goes wasted. Its challenge will be to scale its operations but if it is able to do so, its institutional knowledge of deep tech will place it in a strong position to deliver on its focus of finding (and funding) the young emerging talent that will be the driver of innovation in the future.

Is also Co-Founder & Partner at Hersh + Hurd. Previously was Chief Development & Communications Officer with Orb Media and Managing Director of Strategic Communications at The History Factory.
